HIV/AIDS
We assist individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS who face a broad range of legal issues including discrimination, housing, HIV confidentiality, disability, Medicaid, and permanency planning.
HIV Confidentiality is intended to protect individual privacy (of those who are HIV positive or negative) and to reduce the risk of discrimination and/or harm that may result from disclosure
Under Article 27-F “confidential HIV-related information” includes any information indicating an individual has had an HIV test, has HIV, AIDS, or any HIV related illness, and/or has been exposed to HIV.
The law protects:
- Any individual who has an HIV test,
- Any individual who has been exposed to HIV,
- Any individual who has (had) an HIV-related illness,
- Any individual who has been treated for an HIV-related illness.
- Or information which identifies or reasonably could identify an individual as having one or more of such conditions, including information pertaining to such individual’s contacts (including sexual contacts or needle-sharing contacts)
Disability Advocacy
We represent adults and children who are filing claims for disability benefits or are appealing the termination or denial of federal benefits.
