The laws affecting eviction proceedings have been changing throughout the pandemic. On September 2, the New York State Legislature enacted new measures aimed at helping tenants access rent arrears funds and delay many evictions.
For other types of cases, the courts are open with limits on the number of people in courthouses. Some appearances are virtual and some are in person, it varies by court and type of case.
There are many other changes in federal and state law that have been recently enacted to provide homeowners, consumers, public benefits applicants and recipients, and others with relief.
