Senior Law
As the aging population continues to rise, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) strives to protect the rights of vulnerable seniors. We combine legal representation and advocacy to help seniors in our service area get the assistance and benefits they deserve.
Legal representation :: As elderly citizens retire from a lifetime of contribution to society, many must live on fixed incomes and rely on certain government assistance programs. We provide legal advocacy and representation for low-income seniors in the areas of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Public Housing. LSHV also assists seniors in creating Last Wills and Testaments and advance directives, including a healthcare proxy or living will.
Home healthcare issues :: Many seniors experience a decline in their health but prefer to remain in their homes, rather than in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. LSHV works with social services agencies to obtain assistance from home healthcare workers and homemaker services for these elderly clients. LSHV will challenge an inappropriate denial of these services to deserving seniors.
Elder abuse :: Unfortunately, some seniors are unable to defend themselves physically and emotionally. They are often taken advantage of financially and psychologically. In the worst cases, the elderly find themselves abused and victimized by family members and others. LSHV is committed to preserving the rights of seniors through advocacy, legal representation and working with district attorneys to prosecute criminal cases.
