Kathleen Silverii
Managing Attorney, Dutchess, Putnam and Ulster Counties

Kathleen Silverii is the Managing Attorney for the Dutchess and Ulster Counties of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV). She has been with LSHV since 2000, serving first as a Housing Attorney representing tenants in courts throughout Dutchess County, then as a Family Law attorney assisting victims of domestic violence obtain custody of their children and protection from their abusers. In 2004, Ms. Silverii moved to the Newburgh office as the Intake Attorney of the newly established centralized Intake Unit, opening new cases for clients in the seven county area served by LSHV. Under her supervision, the Intake Unit became an effective, efficient department where people seeking legal help were handled professionally and with care.

Ms. Silverii graduated from Cornell Law School in 1989. She began her career in legal services in 1988 as an intern, working for Farmworker Legal Services of New York and then worked as an attorney for Pine Tree Legal Services in Maine, in the Farmworker Unit. Ms. Silverii then returned to work for Farmworker Legal Services of New York as an attorney, assisting workers with housing, employment, immigration and public benefits issues.

Ms. Silverii serves as the Chairperson of the Partners Committee of the Family Partnership Center, located in Poughkeepsie. She has been appointed Vice Chairperson of the Family Partnership Center Board of Directors. In addition, she serves on the Universal Response to Domestic Violence Steering Committee in Dutchess County. She has been appointed to the Board of the Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Dutchess County, and is an active member of the Dutchess County Housing Consortium. Ms. Silverii serves on the Dutchess County Department of Social Services Advisory Council and participates regularly in bimonthly Ulster County Bringing Agencies Together meetings. She has joined the Dutchess County Pro Bono Committee as well.

Ms. Silverii has been active in her home community of New Paltz, and has served on the local Planning Board, Housing Committee and Open Space Committee. Ms. Silverii has chaired New Paltz=s Police Study Committee, served as Deputy Supervisor of the Town of New Paltz, and served for four years as a member of the New Paltz Town Council.
