Housing Law
At Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV), we strive to prevent homelessness and ensure the safe housing of vulnerable residents. Our team works in a number of capacities to provide legal representation and counseling to individuals and families at risk of eviction and homelessness.
Eviction prevention :: To avoid unlawful evictions and reduce homelessness in the Hudson Valley, we offer legal representation and counseling for individuals and families in eviction proceedings to ensure their rights are protected and their tenancy is preserved.
Habitability :: LSHV advocates for healthy and safe living conditions in apartments and homes. We represent people across the Hudson Valley in various proceedings relevant to safe housing disputes.
Shelter allowance litigation :: Many public assistance families face losing their homes as the shelter allowance (rent payment) provided by the state is much lower than the current market value of units in the Hudson Valley. In Westchester County, LSHV brought a suit, against the State to force it to promulgate a shelter allowance schedule that reflects the market rents in the community.
Housing Project :: As housing and rental costs continue to rise, LSHV helps qualifying individuals and families retain housing that is federally and state subsidized, affordable and protected. LSHV represents hundreds of Public Housing and other federal housing subsides recipients to make certain that individuals abiding by the guidelines set forth by the government receive and maintain their housing assistance.
