Economic Justice Campaign:: Legal Services of the Hudson Valley is seeking to raise $100,000 by the end of 2008 to help provide additional services to the poor and low-income people affected by the current downturn in our economy. With an economic slowdown, prices for the necessities of life increase while the number of available jobs fall; those without jobs are unemployed longer. In the Hudson Valley the percentage of households in severe poverty has reached a 32-year high. Clients coming to us for help with housing subsidies, food stamps, social security and unemployment insurance benefits, child support, and now more often with mortgage foreclosures, find the household budget gap widening as the cost of gas and food climbs.

The funds we raise in the Economic Justice Campaign will help us provide legal assistance to more individuals who need our help. The current economy increases the already steep financial pressures on poor and low-income people, and we need to be equipped to meet the growing needs. Our communities look to us for these services and we stand ready to help. If you want to contribute to this critical campaign, please click here to donate now.
