Disability Law
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) is committed to ensuring the rights of the disabled. At LSHV, we represent disabled individuals in a number of civil situations, which often leads the individual to self-determination and independent living.

Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) :: Individuals who can no longer work because of a disability are often eligible for Social Security Disability (SSD) or Supplementary Security Income (SSI) benefits. Due to the overwhelming bureaucracy of Social Security Administration, many individuals are erroneously denied these important benefits. These denials happen before the individual sees a judge. At LSHV we represent individuals at Administrative Hearings, where their case will be evaluated by an Administrative Law Judge. LSHV has over an 85% rate of obtaining benefits for eligible disabled individuals.

Community Support Services (CSS) :: This LSHV program assists Westchester individuals who suffer from serious and persistent mental illness with civil legal matters which impact their ability to remain living independently in the community. This program offers an array of legal work, including housing, public benefits and family law.

Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (PADD) :: LSHV assists developmentally disabled individuals in obtaining the services to which they are entitled. LSHV often advocates for legally appropriate educational services, public benefits and medical benefits. We advocate for appropriate housing services and the protection of individual rights in group homes, residential facilities and assisted living centers.

Protection and Advocacy for Individual Rights (PAIR) :: We seek to ensure the implementation and enforcement of the Americans With Disabilities Act, The Fair Housing Act and other anti-discrimination statutes. LSHV attorneys represent the physically disabled who seek the access and accommodation provided by these laws.
